14,610 days in retrospective

I've just turned 40. That's right, 40 years ago I was born at 9:05 am in the Kangar General Hospital. The second child to my parents. Coincidentally this post in my centennial post in this blog.

Looking back in retrospective on the 40 years, as far as I could remember....

I used to stay in Jalan Daud, Kampung Baru, KL during the initial years of my life.

My Father used to work in a bank, The Chartered Bank, as it was used to be named. My Mother is a fulltime housewife.

Then my Parents moved to several places including Seremban (Rasah), Bangsar (Terasik 4), Damansara Utama (SS22/3)

When I was five, I could already read and understand English. My parents bought me the Young's Children's Encyclopedia and the Junior Science Library collection

I went to a few kindergartens which was in Section 17 PJ (still there), Bangsar (still there) and Seremban, the rest I could not remember.

When i was six, I could ride a bicycle without the 'trainer' wheels.

We moved to Alor Star when I was six and went to my first of four primary schools in SRK Hj. Mohd Sharif, Jalan Stadium. We also stayed at 1916T, Taman Stadium then.

When I was seven, my parents bought me the Encyclopedia Britannica 1977 edition. It comes in 20 volumes of Macropædia (Knowledge in Depth) and 10 volumes of Micropædia (Ready Reference). I finished reading majority of it by the age of 11.

When I was in year 3 we moved to Butterworth. I went to St. Marks primary school and stayed in 28, Changkat Riang, Taman Riang.

When I was in Year 4 we moved to Penang Island. I went to Bukit Glugor primary school and stayed in 55, Lintang Permai 2, Brown Garden, Bukit Gelugor.

When I was in Year 5 we moved to Damansara Utama. I went to SRKDU and stayed in 20 SS20/12. Had my Std 5 assessment there.

I then went to The Malay College from Form 1 until Form 5.

During that 5 years, my Parents moved from Damansara Utama to 31, Jln Paya Bunga, Kuala Trengganu, Fettes Park in Penang and Jln Amzil, Taman Melewar in Gombak.

When I was 14, I had my first computer, the Apple ][+ clone bought with my own money earned from CNY Ang-Pow. Yes it pays to be the child of a Bank Manager then.

I had my first IBM-PC AT clone in 1988 running DOS and progressed from there.

I then went on my tertiary education.

I started work in 1992 at a place called Office Automation Sdn Bhd (now defunct), a subsidiary of See Hoy Chan in Damansara Utama. It lasted 5 months. I then quit and went on some soul searching for the next 5 months. My brother then got me an interview offer (which he told my mum first) at XYBASE. I started work in XYBASE December 1992 and left the organization officially in January 2003 (although i left earlier due to a lot of accumulated annual leave - September 1992 - Jan 10 2003). Travelled a lot during my Days in XYBASE. You can see the places that I went in my Facebook.

I then joined OAS until now. 18 years of working with three companies but moved a lot during schooling days.

I got married on the 24th December 1995 after knowing my spouse for 7 years. It was a simple ceremony with the dowry of RM80. No 'bersanding', no 'hantaran'. We have now three childrens aged 13, 4 and 1 coming June). It's 15 years this December...

Yes, looking back in retrospective the past 35 years of my life. I really can't remember the first 5 years apart from hazy images of my home then in Jalan Daud, Kampung Baru. My Grandparents on my Mom's side has long gone. My Grandfather on my Father's side went earlier. I was 8 then. Only My Father's mother is still around at 90+.

My Mom called me a few days ago asking whether I'm having any 40th celebrations planned. I told her I'll think about it. After all they say, Life begins at 40. Maybe I'll have Grilled Lamb Chops.

Do I have another 35-40 years ahead of me? Only God knows.
