Yes, those were the days, postal service for the Government official communications were deemed 'National Service', hence free of charge. This was inherited from the British then and was practised in Malaysia ever since until......
Take a look at the photo...
It now bears a franking machine stamp of 70 sen! Now.. If memory serves me right, in a 1st July price revision, a letter (50 grams) will cost 70 sen (increase from 40 sen) and for 20 grams or less it will be 60 sen (an increase from 30 sen)
If my memory serves me yet again, Pos Malaysia announced some 540+ Million losses somewhere end April this year, hence the price increase...??
Why there was no big fuss like the recent petrol, sugar and gas price hike??
And now envelopes bearing 'On His Majesty's Service/Business' (Urusan Seri Paduka Baginda) requires stamps??? Maybe I missed the cue and being an ignoramus that I am, I apologize....
But having the Goverment paying for official letters (I know Pos Malaysia is now a corporate entity....) using tax-payers money...
If these official letters have been requiring stamps since last year or longer... then why did Pos Malaysia still incurred the 540+ Million loss?
If it has only started recently, it's more like helping (read bailing) out Pos Malaysia using tax-payers money... (anyone can confirm when did the official letters requiring stamps started?)
What's next?
.rr
