Sahur experience

I remembered somewhere in the year 1998.

It was during Ramadhan that year.

Just got back on a flight from IST after transit in DXB. We landed in KLIA early morning about 4 something.

After landing, the plane taxied to the gate in Terminal B. After stopping and the seat belts light had been turned off, the passengers are all busy getting their hand carry and preparing for disembarking from the plane.

As I was travelling on Y class, it's a norm to wait for the C class to disembark first. We waited for 10 minutes....

Nothing. The passengers are getiing restless. After about 30 minutes or so, the Captain announced that they are having problems of getting the airport operator to find someone to operate the aerobridge (the contraption that connects the terminal building to the plane). It seems that the person(s) on duty are nowhere to be found! They all have gone for Sahur!.

We waited in the plane for a further 50 minutes before the aerobridge were operated and the passengers were able to disembark.

The time then was almost half past five in the morning. Less then 20 minutes or so until Imsak.

Damn, luggage has still not came out! The ground handler also went for Sahur??

I asked my colleague if he brought his airport pass as mine was in my checked-in luggage. He said he had it with him. So I told him to go out and buy us something to eat before Imsak time while I waited for the luggage. And so off he went, half running while I waited for the carousel first bag light to come on.

Once our bags came out some 10-12 minutes later I grabbed the bags and rushed for the customs. Lo and behold my friend appeared with some bread and drinks. We had our sahur at the customs checkpoint to the amusement of the customs officers as we related our ordeal to them.

That was one of my worst experience for Sahur so far, being hungry after hours of flight having Y class in-flight meals. Pity some of the other passengers who did not have the opportunity to have their Sahur.....
