Welcome Ramadhan Mubarak

It's that time of year where people change has come again

Yes Ramadhan is drawing nearer. In an hour, when the Sun sets on the horizon, we have crossed over into the holy month of Ramadhan.

Ramadhan changes people.

It's the time of year where people change

For some, Ramadhan changes them to be more pious, performing the rituals both the compulsory as well as the sunat ones. Night prayers (Tarawih) during Ramadhan is a must for most. But as my experience in Tarawih, tonight and the subsequent nights for the first week will be the most packed.

The crowd starts to dwindle down in urban areas from the second week onwards. The last week of Ramadhan will see the suraus most scarce of the congregation.

For another group, Ramadhan is where they make money.

Selling Raya cookies, kain batik, etc

Selling the food for Iftar...

For the other is where the crowd congregates, every evening without fail to buy themselves with food for Iftar. This is where the crowd goes unruly as everything to them looks good and tasty after being hungry for the whole day. The amount of food prepared for customers are tremendous. Let's not talk about wastage here on the food unsold. That's another whole article to write.

Last year, the first day of Ramadhan was a weekend, so I've managed to go and take a look at the crowd at the Ramadhan Bazaar. This year it's a Wednesday. Traffic will be horrendous.

For another group, the sumptuous buffet at food dwellings are calling. Spending money in the amount of at least RM50 per person to eat, where in normal days most of these people never even set their food at a buffet spread. Yes. these people are hungry. They have been 'starved' for the whole day without food.

Weekends sees another congregation flooding specific areas of the City. Jalan TAR, Masjid India and shopping complexes. It's a buying spree, Hari Raya sales. Raya is the time of year for most people, as if a cult, shopping for new attires, new stuff for the home. Some even buy new cars.

Yes, the time of year where people change is here again.

It's a month of blessing. It's a month to re-look back on oneself. It's a month of change.

Will Ramadhan change you?

Anyway, wishing all Muslims a very good Ramadhan.
