It was raining rather heavily earlier and I was rushing home for Iftar.
The road leading to my dwelling consists of two nice 90 degree curves which I normally take at speeds of 50-60 km/h. Entering the corner following the 'imaginery' racing line ensures optimum coverage and minimizes the time in taking the corner.
At the last curve i took the bend at the same speed, suddenly the rear end of my car gave way.
Noticing that I was out of the racing line, I relaxed the steering wheel and allowed the car to take its natural course. This caused the car to drift.
Just after midway of the drift, I applied some pressure and the steering wheel to 'counter' the inertial effects. The car responded by slowing down the arc of the turn. I let go again and let the car to turn fully to 180 degrees.
Noticing the left embankment is getting closer, I had no choice but to counter the turn fully to avoid hitting the embankment. The trusty car reponded and gave me back control.
Taking the car into another 180 degrees spin, I continued home safely.
Driving an automatic, I could not have done it without the wet roads and underinflated rear tyres.
Morale of the event is, keep your tyres at the correct pressure at all times!
