My son who has just gone into his first year of Secondary school came home beaming and happy as he was chosen as a prefect (probationary) at school. The probation was to last for 3 months.
During the registration day end of last year, he was placed in Class 1C, based on the UPSR results. I heard a parent who was arguing with the teacher that her daughter has always been in the 'A' class, why on earth that the daughter was placed in C class? The teacher cooly answered that the placement was based on the UPSR results, for without 5As, there's no way that the daughter can be placed in 1A.
Today, my son also announced that he was 'moved' into class 1A, with only 5 Malay students. I wonder why, but then told him (as I was his idol, to his mind, I'm a wise know-all person that have been able to answer any of his questions posed to me) that a congratulations was in order. He now has to work harder and added that I've set my expectations for him to be in the Top 10 of the class, at least for the first half this year and climb up further to the top 5 by the end of the year.
But then, as a parent, how hard should you push a 12+ year old boy?

Dunno.. based on your experience, how was it? :D back then when I was 12, my parent keep reminding me without knowledge, I'll be useless. Also, as 2nd oldest son (since I'm almost twin) I'll strive my way to challenge my big brother. But, like I said before, I have no experience Hahaha..
